Universal Tenets of All Faiths When representatives of more than 100 of the world's faiths -- Confucianism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, goddess worship, Bahaism, Buddhism to name just a few -- came together in 1993 as the Parliament of the World's Religions, they had one purpose in mind: to come up with a script that protected and promoted the well-being of humanity in the spirit of harmony. These are the Universal Tenets they agreed upon: 1. We are interdependent. 2. We take individual responsibility for all we do. 3. We must treat others as we wish others to treat us. 4. We consider humankind our family. 5. We must strive for a just social and economic order, in which everyone has an equal chance of reaching his or her full potential. 6. We commit ourselves to a culture of respect, justice and peace. 7. Earth cannot be changed for the better unless the consciousness of individuals is changed first. We commit ourselves to this global ethic, to understanding one another, and to socially beneficial, peace-fostering and nature- friendly ways of life. We invite all people, whether religious or not, to do the same.
